Sinclair Community College has many great study spaces, but everyone has different studying needs. Finding that certain place where one feels at peace and comfortable is crucial for effective studying. Here are some students who shared their top places to study and why:
Alexandria King – Major: History

“I really like hanging around the Sinclair library, especially because of the access to the computers,” Kind said. “You’re not too far away from some food; they have a really wonderful selection of books and wonderful staff who are very knowledgeable, but I also like to go to the Dayton Metro Library. The main branch is a wonderful place to relax and work on school stuff and it’s not too far away from Sinclair.
“In Sinclair’s library right next to the coffee shop is a really good place to get work done or hang out. I like to hear the people walking by and talking as I’m working on stuff.”
Graham Jenkins – Major: Liberal Arts

“My favorite is the little dark corners of the library near the bell tower,” Jenkins said. “There’s little hallways and it’s dark and quiet there; I think that’s mostly where I study. Also, that one bench outside of Building 1 too. I think it’s closed off right now for construction, but there’s a little path and it’s got some nice trees and plants and it’s kind of secluded from view; that’s a good place.
“It does get a little distracting, it’s more for light studying or review I feel like. I usually eat lunch or take breaks out there so I can people-watch. I think the wind and the trees help me focus and calm down.”
Theodore Sotirelis – Major: Chemical Engineering

“I like the second level of building 10 the most, it’s really quiet because it’s not that busy,” Sotirelis said. “There’s other people studying there but there’s not a lot of through-traffic, and so it’s very quiet. It’s very nicely lit, there’s also a nice mix of tables and couches. There’s a bunch of different areas depending on how you feel that day. There’s couches, a couple booths there, and just a bunch of nice tables that are good for working at.
“I find it easier to focus there than the library, honestly. I think in the library, there’s just too many people moving around a lot of the time, and I find it easier to concentrate there instead.”
