Former Sinclair President Dr. Ned J. Sifferlen is being mourned after his passing was announced yesterday. Regarded by many as of the most important figures in Sinclair’s history, Sifferlen is widely recognized for a distinguished career supporting the college dating all the way back to 1965.

In 2010, Dr. Ned Sifferlen was honored with the building naming of the Health and Sciences Center. Reflecting on his time at Sinclair, Sifferlin said, “I started here when it was a small institution and one of the things that really drove me was the success of the students. Nothing was more important to me throughout my career than the students at the institution.”

Being the namesake of Building 14, Sifferlen’s influence on the community he served for so long remains massive. He was pivotal in helping establish Sinclair as a community college and helped raise millions of dollars in scholarship funds that would go on to support the education of thousands. Additionally, he would help plan the college’s wondrous expansion into the educational powerhouse it is today.

Sifferlen will be missed by the many colleagues that remain at Sinclair in addition to the countless number of students and faculty he inspired over the years.

This week, funeral arrangements will be held to honor his life and legacy in our community. Before his passing, Ned expressed his wishes for his viewing and funeral arrangements. It comes as no surprise that he wanted Sinclair Community College to be a part of those arrangements. Ned cherished his time at Sinclair, and it is a privilege to grant his final wishes.
