One tradition for those who celebrate Christmas is the hanging of lights. Whether they set up an elaborate, award-winning display or just admire the works of others, people of all ages participate in this decorative delight. 

Ohio.org recently released a map of a “Holiday Lights Trail” that involves all regions of the state. Locations are numbered and marked on the map along with their names. There are a total of 55 stops, with 13 stops here in southwest Ohio! Find out about some of them below.

  1. The Legendary Lights of Historic Clifton Mill in Clifton, OH – This spot has repeatedly nominated for USA TODAY awards and features more than 4 million lights! According to their website, Clifton Mill has a “100 foot ‘waterfall’ of twinkling lights.” Visitors can see the display seven days a week through Dec. 30 from 6-9 p.m., and on Dec. 24 and 25 from 6-8 p.m.

  1. A Carillon Christmas at Carillon Park in Dayton, OH – Perhaps the most magical part of this location is the “Carillon Tree of Light.” In addition to the 200-foot-tall spectacle, Carillon Park also has many exhibits and activities such as “Letters to Santa.” Except for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, the event runs until Dec. 30. The park’s hours are 5-9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 5-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

  1. WinterFest at Kings Island in Mason, OH – The amusement park is a bundle of fun this time of year. While most rides have been closed for the season, there is still so much to eat, see, and enjoy, including live shows and opportunities for crafts. There’s fun for the whole family! The park is open on select nights through December with varying hours. The WinterFest map can be found on the Kings Island website.

  1. Fort St. Clair’s Whispering Christmas in Eaton, OH – If patrons want to stay toasty warm while still enjoying some lights, Fort St. Clair is a wonderful option! Whispering Christmas 2022 will feature a drive-through display made possible by many community members. Though it is free to see, donations are encouraged. The hours of operation are 6:30-9 p.m. every day in December.

  1. Holiday Lights at Lost Creek Reserve in Troy, OH – Lost Creek Reserve has prepared 1.25 miles worth of lights and holiday cheer! This stop is also car friendly and is open weekends through Dec. 23. Visit between 6 and 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, between 6 and 9 p.m. on Sundays, and from 6-9 p.m. Dec. 19-22.
