Thanksgiving, like other holidays, is associated with the gathering of family members. Some are
near, while others make the trek to be with everyone else. Whether they choose to drive, fly, or
travel by some other method, they are among the millions of people that leave home to
celebrate .
AAA recently released their predictions for this year’s Thanksgiving, stating that 54.6 million
people are expected to travel. The company began tracking travel trends such as this in 2000. They not only provide facts and figures but also use them to advise the best travel intervals.
Depending on the day, the best times to drive may be in late morning (before 11 a.m.), early
afternoon (before 2 p.m.), and evening (after 6 p.m.).
Those planning to travel the day before Thanksgiving, Wednesday, Nov 23., may have to wake
up a bit earlier than usual – AAA suggests leaving prior to 8 a.m.
Lydia Taylor of Spectrum News relayed more AAA information, writing that 2.2 million Ohioans
will be away from home by 50 or more miles. Most will travel by car.
But congested highways may not be the only concern for Thanksgiving travelers – AccuWeather
describes some potential weather events beginning in the middle of the week. Patches of the
northern U.S. and Pacific Northwest, along with the Mississippi Valley, will be impacted first.
While it’s unclear just how much, the Midwest may experience some rain showers, particularly
on Thanksgiving Day. According to WHIO, temperatures will be in the mid-to-upper 40s in the Dayton area.

No Ohio cities are expected to be major holiday travel hubs, but 215,873 people will fly out of
the state. Places such as Los Angeles, New York, and Chicago – which are very much known for
their hustle and bustle – will be even busier.
The biggest advice experts seem to have for this holiday is to remain flexible and expect delays
in some capacity.
Remember that Sinclair campuses will close at 5 pm. on Wednesday, meaning classes after that
time will not meet. There will also be no weekend classes.
