Sinclair staff and faculty have donated a record-breaking over $100,000 for Student Scholarships and Support Programs. The campaign this year ran from Aug. 18 through Sep. 29. This year’s theme is “Driving Change Together.”
Michael Orr who is the Alumni and Donor Relations officer is the person who oversaw running this year’s campaign.
“Since it is my first year running it is such a privilege to work with people who care about students inside and outside of the classroom,” said Orr. “This is yet one other incredible way the Sinclair Community supports their students and gives everyone an equal opportunity to learn.”
Sinclair’s faculty and staff are the single largest demographic donating to Sinclair every year.
“Professors and other school faculty see the needs students have and feel a sense of passion when it comes to their students” Orr explained “I believe the faculty and staff who donated see an opportunity to make a difference in their student’s lives and in their community,” said Orr.
Faculty and staff get to decide what funds they would like to donate too and at this time there are currently over 250 different active funds to choose from. Over the past year, Sinclair has introduced several new funds to help students in daily life such as food insecurity, equity, and anti-racism.
The college said more than 550 Sinclair employees participated in this year’s campaign.
From there the Sinclair Foundation receives the donation money and then Financial Aid distributes it.
Over the past five years, Sinclair employees have raised more than $450,000, helping to provide hundreds of scholarships, emergency funds, and program development aid across campus.
This is just one way Sinclair gives back to their students and shows how the community and college come together for the greater good. Many students depend on scholarship money to help them with their tuition costs and help them further their education.
“Throughout the global pandemic, Sinclair’s faculty and staff never lost sight of our mission to find the need and endeavor to meet it. They give of their time and talents to ensure our students receive quality, affordable education and services and they give from their hearts to ensure additional needs are met,” said Dr. Steve Johnson, President of Sinclair Community College.
