On Tuesday, Oct. 28 the Mobile Mammogram hosted by Premier Health Atrium Medical Center will come to visit Sinclair’s Dayton campus.
This program provides safe screenings for women at low or no cost and eliminates the issue of transportation by coming to local neighborhoods.
It is recommended by doctors that women over 40 should receive one mammogram a year to check for breast cancer. By receiving yearly screenings, it can help detect the early stages of breast cancer and gives patients a chance for a cure before it can become deadly.
While mammograms are useful, they are not always completely accurate in detecting cancer due to the chance of a false-positive result, wherein the doctor might find something uncommon but not necessarily cancer.
Although mammograms are not 100% accurate, it is still important to get checked. It is estimated that one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer at some point in their lifetime. Studies show once a woman turns 30, her chances of getting breast cancer increase every 10 years or so.
The Mobile Mammogram will be hosted in Lot L on Sinclair’s Dayton campus. If anyone is interested in scheduling an appointment, call (855) 887-7364. Make sure to bring your ID and insurance card to the appointment. Full-time employees can earn 4 wellness points when they update their Health Activity Tracker to indicate that they had a mammogram this year.
