Sinclair is expanding its reach throughout the community, and has purchased a church and the plot of land it’s on with the intention of opening a new branch of the school on Clyo Road in Centerville.

The property was sold for $9.6 million dollars and the deal closed in April of this year. The building is 100,000 square feet and includes a kitchen, office spaces, classrooms, two gymnasiums and an auditorium capable of seating up to 1,500 people. The building also sits on about 40 acres of land.

According to the Dayton Business Journal, Sinclair had previously reported plans to use the property to open a new “educational, cultural and community enrichment center on site.”

The church had considered other buyers throughout the process, but eventually determined that Sinclair would be the “best fit.”

“Closing on this sale brings a new nationally recognized community college, job opportunities and economic growth to the southern portion of Montgomery County and we are proud to be apart of helping to make it happen,” Tom Kretz, the deal broker, told Dayton Business Journal.

The new Centerville campus will begin classes spring of 2019. However, the classes offered have had to be determined, according to Sinclair spokesman Adam Murka.

The property was bought for nearly $10 million, and Sinclair expects to spend close to $250,000 on renovations transforming the building from a church into a learning center.

“We see this potential center as a key part of our future along with our other learning centers throughout the county and a tremendous enhancement to our headquarter operations in downtown Dayton.” Sinclair president Steven Johnson had previously said to Dayton Business Journal.

Sinclair already offers classes in several other locations besides the downtown Dayton campus. Sinclair has satellite facilities in Eaton, Englewood, Mason and Huber Heights, as well as offering classes in local high schools and the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

According to Dayton Daily News, the new Centerville campus could bring locational benefits to its students and area. The new property is located only 15 minutes from Austin Landing, and near Wilmington Pike and major interstate 675.

This location not only gives students easy access to the numerous business of Austin Landing, but gives residents in the area access to a new learning center. According to Dayton Business Journal, the facility will offer the community not only college classes and K-12 enrichment, but recreational activities and health services as well.
