Janet Jackson, well known for her songs “That’s The Way Love Goes” and “Together Again,” has arrived with new music for the first time in three years.
Jacksons new single, titled “Made For Now” is all about living in the moment and accepting who we are now. Featured in the single is Daddy Yankee, this being the first time the two have worked together on music.
“I am a huge fan of latin music,” says Jackson in regards to why she wanted Daddy Yankee to be apart of this single.
Jackson said, “I’ve always listened to different styles of music, and being in different parts of the world whether it be something on television or something on the radio and being introduced to different types of music,” when asked what inspired her on this single.
In the music video Jackson continues to use her bright colors and personal outfits, in one part wearing a large decorated gown on a tall roof. Jackson brought in dancers from across the world to contribute to the music video.
Jackson is the youngest sibling in the Jackson family, who is responsible for the Jackson 5 producing the pop legend Michael Jackson. Janet has performed since 1974, her first stage appearance with her family in the Jackson 5 singing and doing impressions in a Las Vegas show.
Jackson did some time as an actress from 1977 to 1984, until she graduated high school and married James DeBarge, though the marriage lasted a very short time. Her musical career really developed in 1982 when she released her debut album, “Janet Jackson.”
This start would lead her to becoming one of the top selling contemporary artists ever, appearing on talk shows, performing across the world, and selling music to millions across the globe. “Made For Now” is currently featured on Spotify’s New Music Friday and is her most downloaded song.
Jackson, visited New York, performing “Made For Now” on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Friday, Aug. 17, 2018. Fallon gave credit to Jackson as a “global icon and one of the best selling artists of all time.” The performance that followed was huge, with plenty of dancers and bright costumes. This was the first time the two performed the song live.
To end her visit to New York, Jackson threw a block party in Harlem on Saturday, as part of the annual #HarlemWeek celebration. #HarlemWeek is an opportunity for New Yorkers to get together and encourage one another as a community, and has been going on since 1974. It likes to highlight the diverse culture there, with a mix of African, African-American, European, and Caribbean heritage throughout the area, inspiration Jackson had when writing “Made For Now”.
Jackson is set to revisit New York on Sept. 29 to headline the Global Citizen Festival in Central Park.
She hasn’t made comment as to whether an album will follow. You can find her single on most major music platforms, to include iTunes, Spotify and Apple Music.
