WWE was live in Brooklyn, New York for SmackDown Live. After an eventful SummerSlam for the Blue Brand, SmackDown looks to progress after rivalries continue to boil at an all-time high.
SmackDown kicks off with The Miz & Maryse. Sunday at SummerSlam, The Miz defeated Daniel Bryan after Maryse handed Miz a set of brass knuckles and he knocked out Daniel Bryan. The Miz comes out and announces his retirement… his retirement from his rivalry with Daniel Bryan. He mocks Daniel and states he has nothing to left to prove regarding why he is better than Daniel Bryan.
Daniel Bryan comes out and calls Miz a coward for what he did at SummerSlam. Miz uses Maryse to shield him until the returning Brie Bella hits Miz with a forearm. Daniel then announces that at Hell in a Cell it will be Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella versus Miz and Maryse. SummerSlam was great but now it is a battle of reality shows. A once great rivalry has taken a wrong turn.
Jeff Hardy v. Randy Orton
The much-awaited matchup between Jeff Hardy and Randy Orton is what SmackDown can build. The match was gruesome and hard hitting. Randy seemed to be in control. However, Jeff had enough of the games Randy had been playing and he got himself disqualified.
Jeff saw he had the upper hand and used it to his advantage. He attacked Randy all throughout the arena and up towards the production equipment. Jeff had laid out Randy on a table and Swanton Bombed him from off the top of equipment boxes.
Naomi v. Peyton Royce
Peyton Royce beat Naomi in a quick match with the help of Billie Kay. The match really does not give any progress to either woman but a win is a win, and the Iconics haven’t picked one up in a while.
Becky Lynch Explains Her Actions at SummerSlam
Becky has had enough of her so-called best friend Charlotte stealing her opportunities. SummerSlam was supposed to be Becky’s opportunity to finally reach the pinnacle of the SmackDown Women’s division in a one on one showdown with Carmella.
However, Charlotte weaseled her way into the match and won the Championship. Becky feels betrayed by not only Charlotte but also by the WWE Universe by not standing by her. Charlotte hears enough and confronts her. The two brawl and needed the entire SmackDown Women’s division to break the two up. This is what Bayley and Sasha should have been. But, now this feud can grow and be really good.
Rusev and Lana v. Andrade “Cien” Almas and Zelina Vega
In a rematch from SummerSlam, Andrade and Zelina face off against Lana and Rusev. However, the result is different. Rusev and Lana pick up the victory with the help of Aiden English. Yes, Aiden English helped Rusev Day pick up a victory. Are things looking up for Rusev Day?
AJ Styles Explains what happened at SummerSlam
At SummerSlam AJ Styles retained the WWE Championship, however it was by getting himself disqualified after Samoa Joe crossed the line and poked fun at his wife and children. The more AJ’s family is brought into this feud, the more fuel is added to the fire.
AJ is interviewed at the top of the stage and states he should not have lost his temper like that in front of his wife and daughter. However before AJ could continue, Samoa Joe ambushed AJ and put him in the Coquina Clutch. Samoa Joe states that AJ can’t put his daughters in bed for night night because it seems AJ is already out for night night.
SmackDown Tag Team Championships: The New Day v. The Bludgeon Brothers (No Disqualification)
In a rematch from SummerSlam, The New Day get another opportunity at the SmackDown Tag Team Championships, this time with no disqualification. Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods represented the team in this match, as Big E suffered a rib injury from the SummerSlam bout.
In a brutal and physical match, each team took hell for the Tag Team Championship. The New Day however was able to get the best of the unbeatable Bludgeon Brothers to win the SmackDown Tag Team Championship. The New Day are now five time Tag Team Champions.
Conclusion
SmackDown was a pretty good show. With SummerSlam in the rearview window, the road to Hell in a Cell begins. A few matches are set and will be set soon. With new Tag Team Champions, there is a ton of potential for the future of SmackDown’s stacked Tag Team Division.
