Tartan Spotlight: Chase Frantz

Chase Frantz is a freshman Nursing major new to Sinclair Community College.

Although many of Frantz’s formative years were spent in Kettering Ohio, he also resided in both Illinois and Hawaii due to the fact that his father works in the Air Force.

Many people see Hawaii as the ideal vacation spot, but Frantz has a different outlook:

“Living in Hawaii for four years showed that it is really just like anywhere else,” Frantz said.

Although Frantz feels Hawaii to be ordinary after four years of living there, he claims there are special perks.

“The coolest thing about Hawaii was probably just being able to go to the beach every day.”

Frantz has also met Dog the Bounty Hunter, who also lived in Hawaii at the time.

“He was just like he was on TV, loud and obnoxious.”

Frantz’s dad is a nurse in the Air Force, which led to Frantz and his family being relocated to Ohio before Frantz started third grade. Frantz still lives in Ohio in the present day.

Frantz played the saxophone in many different bands including the marching band, jazz band, and the wind ensemble at Kettering Fairmont High School. While he primarily plays the alto saxophone, Frantz also plays the baritone saxophone.

“It taught me that practice means a lot,” Frantz said, “I met a lot of new people and some new friends through band.”

Although Frantz has toyed with the idea of Anesthesiology, Psychology and Biology, he has ultimately decided to pursue his degree in Nursing.

Frantz started his postsecondary education at Wright State University majoring in Biology, but beginning this semester has decided to attend Sinclair.

“Sinclair just makes more sense for me financially,” Frantz said, “I have heard that their Nursing program is a great place to start.”

Many of Frantz’s good friends also attend Sinclair, which was a large contributing factor to his decision.

Frantz’s decision to pursue Nursing came from a passion to help those who need it.

“I’ve always liked helping people, and for what I want to do in life Nursing is a good start.”

In his free time, Frantz enjoys activities such as video games and visiting the gym. His ideal video game is one with a deep backstory, so he can enjoy the benefits of a well written story with the instructiveness of a video game.

A good chunk of his spare time not at school is spent working at Arepas & Co., a Colombian restaurant in Kettering.

Frantz plans to further his education beyond Sinclair later in his life, possibly attending medical school in the future. He plans to continue to live in the city of Dayton practicing nursing in local hospitals, and continuing his life goal to help people.
