Calling all creative writers, artists, journalism students, english majors, criminal justice students, culinary arts, geologists; anyone really who loves to create, and has something to share with Sinclair! The Clarion wants to publish your work!

The school newspaper is a great place to promote your work, and we want to make ourselves more available to you. I encourage you to tell your story about your college experience, or share your short stories, your poems, your art, with an audience larger than your professor and classroom.

That poem you wrote for class and thought it was so good you couldn’t wait to show it to your mom, we want to read it and possibly publish it for others to appreciate. We also want to know what it’s like to treat a patient, create a webpage, or climb to the top of a firetruck ladder.

Your fellow students want to hear you too. We can each experience only so much, but through poetry or short stories we can live vicariously through each other. People read the news to gain a larger perspective, and The Clarion is your chance to share yours.

The Clarion has the responsibility of reporting school information, holding Sinclair accountable, representing students and faculty, promoting events and recognizing achievements. I can’t think of a better way of fulfilling our role than to publish the works and words of Sinclair students.

Our writers and reporters do a great job of bringing you news and entertainment, but we feel that we can do more. With your help, we can give Sinclair a story about your club, team or program that might have otherwise gone unheard. And by publishing your creative writing or visual arts, we can bring attention to your work and inspire others to express themselves through creation.

The Clarion has long offered to publish poetry and short stories, with a small ad at the back of the paper in between the Sudoku puzzle and the horoscopes. It must have never been seen, as the mailbox to the email address given is empty.

Sinclair’s student body is widely diverse, as is the staff at The Clarion. But our small staff does not have a representative from every background that can be found at Sinclair.

We want to hear those voices. We want to hear the perspectives of people involved in BriTe SiGnaL, AAMI, MSA, the Student Senate, Tartan Pride, Honors Program, Distance Learning, Veterans Services and International Education. If I didn’t list you earlier, we want to hear from you too.

We won’t always be able to print everything we receive, but we’ll publish what we can fit. So submit your articles, poetry and short stories to Clarion@Sinclair.edu. I look forward to seeing your work!
