Disney has confirmed that a “Lion King” reboot will be coming soon. Jon Favreu, the same director responsible for the reboot of “The Jungle Book,” will direct the movie reboot back in April. Much like Favreau’s previous reboot, “Lion King,” will be featuring some of the songs from the animated film. This makes for an exciting development as “The Jungle Book” earned 965.8 million dollars worldwide in the box office according to Disney.
Walt Disney Studios officially released the announcement of the live action reboot on Wednesday. In a press release, they confirmed that the team would be working with Jon Favreu once again in order to re-create the beloved animated film from 1994.
“The Lion King,” according to Disney, was and has been one of the most popular animated films since its release in 1994. Naturally that means that Favreau will have to make sure to do the original justice in order to earn the same kind of revenue that “The Jungle Book,” remake got last April. Seems like a pretty big challenge, even though Disney has promised that songs from the original will be implemented into the movie.
You can look at polls and I could even tell you my opinion, but it wouldn’t seem to get the idea across about how people are feeling about the news of a live action remake of this famed film. In order to get an idea of how some people feel about it, I found a few people to ask that very question.
“’Hakna matata.’ Because there is no worries this movie isn’t going to be epic.” Quotes Ryan Jones from the movie’s famous phrase.
“I mean I guess it could be pretty exciting. I’m excited to see what sort of creative routes they can take on a childhood favorite of mine,” Says Olivia Donelson.
“…I am quite excited for this amazing idea! Lion King was such a big hit for Disney and children. It’s sad to say that after the years have gone by, it itself has gone away, just like all the others…” Says Daraylanna Cooper, a Lion King fan whom expressed much excitement with the news of the reboot.
From what I could gather, people seem more excited for this reboot than they do skeptical. With the news that it will be featuring songs from the original and directed by Jon Favreau, who made “The Jungle Book,” into a hit with it’s reboot, perhaps we can expect “Lion King,” to become just as much a famed film as it’s animated counterpart.
Currently the film has no release date, although it is in production along with a sequel to “The Jungle Book.” For now we will just have to wait and see what Disney has in store for us and for the future of these beloved Disney classics.
