Weird February Holidays

It’s the season of love because we are in the month of February, which holds Valentine’s Day. The month of February represents the time of the year of love as well as black history month, but February also represents holidays that are little bizarre.

Do you love eating ice cream for dessert? Well, what about having ice cream for breakfast? The first Saturday of February is International Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast Day, there is nothing like having something sweet to start your day. This day’s origin is out of sheer winter boredom from the 1960s. A mom in Rochester, NY. Decided it was time to give her kids something to look forward to other than another day of gray skies and snowfall. So, she created this day with her two young boys. It sure did the trick, if only for a little while. So if you are bored like that ladies’ kids were and you were wanting to do something weird or even quirky, get up and eat some ice cream. Besides, if the rest of your day is sour, at least you had something sweet to start the day. Spread the word, ice cream breakfast day. Try it!Ice_cream_sundae

Are you ready for the Super Bowl? Who are you going for, the panthers or broncos? Well it doesn’t really matter when you can just turn up and celebrate the Super Bowl. February 7 is Super Bowl Sunday, this is an epic day where you can have fun with friends and yell at the TV like the teams can hear.  Millions of people around the world hold or attend the “Big Party” at bars, party houses, and in their living rooms. Super Bowl Sunday is the second biggest snack day of the year.

Bored with your old friends? In a depressing need to make new friends? Well, on February 11 it’s Make a Friend Day. If you are in college and all your friends are gone at other colleges, no need to feel alone. This day is for you, get up and don’t be scared to meet new people because you never know, they may have something in common with you. So don’t be shy now, mingle with your peers and say, “Hi I am—…”

Now, my name is De’Andre, but sometimes I wish my name was a different name because so many people just wear out my name too much. Do you ever just wish you could change your name? On February 13, it’s Get a Different Name Day for people who are not fond of the name given to them. At birth, we are given a first name, a middle name, and a last name. So you can truly be who you want to be… literally this time.
