Have you wondered what your Phi Theta Kappans have done throughout the summer?

On Saturday, June 13 from noon until midnight, members of your Phi Theta Kappa Nu Pi chapter raised awareness and funds to fight cancer at the Relay For Life in Riverside, Ohio. Although the event holds a personal connection with many, it also hosted a variety of engaging activities. Daryl Gudstadt, Niko Infanto, and Tyler McDonough participated in the crazy clothes relay, a team competition where participants raced to put on outfits ranging from a nightgown with rubber gloves to dress clothes and a tie.Later in the day, the members were called to the stage for the air band contest. With inflatable microphones, guitars, and a cardboard drum set, your Nu Pi chapter rocked out to Bon Jovi’s “Living on a Prayer”. The Nu Pi team was awarded multiple accolades for their participation, with the most notable being the coveted Team Spirit award. Thus far in their campaign, the team has raised $728.55 of their $1,000 goal for the American Cancer Society. If any Tartans desire to show their spirit and support a worthy cause, donations are encouraged on the Phi Theta Kappa Nu Pi Chapter team page at relayforlife.org.

On July 17 and 18, your Nu Pi members met with other ΦΘΚ chapters at the Ohio Leadership in Action convention in Hocking Hills, Ohio. On Friday, July 17, attendees participated in activities such as canoeing and zip lining. After enjoying the local scenery, the chapters regrouped and ended the first day with a barbecue by the lake. The convention’s second day consisted of keynote sessions on topics ranging from member scholarships to effective leadership strategies. Brenda Jarvis, Nu Pi member and President of the Ohio Region, addressed the attendees with a plan to engage their members and chapters while elevating the prestige of our region and society. When asked about our chapter’s eventful summer, Tyler McDonough said, “As president and member of Nu Pi chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, I couldn’t be more proud of the enthusiasm and effort our chapter exhibits while planning and executing projects to enrich our community. It’s humbling to serve for an honors society that promotes academic excellence, professional development, social networking, and civil service. The 2015-2016 school year is going to be one of great grades, hard work, a variety of fun activities, and many opportunities for personal growth.”
