Meet Jan Knapp.
A part-time Geology professor at Sinclair Community College, who received a bachelor’s degree in Geology from Wright State University.
Although he is a professor, he was never fond of going to school.
“I never really liked going to school, still don’t,” Knapp said.
He had chosen the specific field of geophysics, because it had the word ‘physics’ in it.
“I liked rocks as a kid. I took geophysics and it made so much sense to me,” Knapp said.
But Knapp isn’t just about rocks. He enjoys activities such as biking, gardening and cooking.
He said he likes to think his attitude makes him unique.
“I believe I am original, therefore I am,” Knapp said.
Knapp said he is known for his interesting stories. He said there was a time where he pet a horned toad that lived in the yucca plants he gardened. His wife never believed him until another lady she met told her that she also had a similar experience.
“It’s like I am the father in [the movie] Big Fish,” Knapp said.
He said his stories are strange but they are true, at least most of them. Knapp said some stories need a little spicing up.
He also told stories about his unfortunate experiences he has had throughout his life.
“My mother died when I was 18 months old,” Knapp said.
It has given him a real fear of loss in relationships, but it has shaped him into who he is today.
“I can get in the worst situation and come out okay,” Knapp said.
For most of his experiences, Knapp believes it’s just how the problem is looked at.
“There is always a solution and I’m looking for it, until I find it,” Knapp said. “Even when I have one I still look for one. There’s always something better.”
