FACTS strives to make college affordable

Some students at Sinclair Community College will turn in their financial aid applications on time, only to find that one question was unintentionally left blank.

The application is then denied and sent back for correction.

But Teresa Albertini, accounting tech for the Bursar’s Office, believes that the Facts Payment Plan is an alternative for students who are waiting for their financial aid .

“We have a lot of students that use the Facts Payment Plan,” Albertini said. “For students that don’t have financial aid it makes their tuition more affordable and even for students that do have financial aid, if their financial aid is late coming in, it helps them hold their classes until that financial aid kicks into their account.”

To register for the Facts Payment Plan, visit facts.sinclair.edu. Once a student is registered, the payment plan splits tuition into three or four easy payments, in which students have the chance to pay with their debit or credit card and have it automatically come out of their bank accounts, which can be checking or savings, according to Albertini.

Facts will be available Nov. 29 and a $15 enrollment fee will be taken out automatically.

Payments will be due on the 20th for the months of December, January and February.

Students who register before Dec. 16 will have three payments and no down payment fee.

After Dec. 16, there will be a down payment fee of 33 percent and the student will pay two payments in December and February.

If a student decides to register after the registration deadline, the down payment will be 50 percent and there will only be one payment due on Feb. 20.

“The idea with Facts is that by the end of the quarter everything should be paid off,” Albertini said.

With missed payments, Facts will then reattempt with the credit, debit card or bank account on file. If the reattempt fails, the student will be liable to pay a $30 missed payment fee.

Facts, Albertini said, will then terminate the agreement.

If a student drops a class, the money will be refunded the week of Jan. 25 as a refund check, according to Albertini.

Albertini advises students to call the Bursar’s Office at 512-2606, if they have questions or concerns about the Facts Payment Plan.
