On Saturday Oct. 15 Sinclair faced Lakeland Community College in their annual Volley for the Cure game. Sinclair wore special pink uniforms and offered souvenirs for those who donated to fund research for breast cancer awareness.Coach Gan and his players both explained the importance of the Volley for the Cure game.“It great to honor those who cannot be with us,” said head coach KC Gan.“It was a big deal, I personally know someone who survived breast cancer,” said freshman Katie Beyoglides. “We just wanted to support those who are struggling and those who are fighting for their lives.”To start the game, Sinclair was fired up and jumped out to a quick lead, more than doubling Lakelands score at 19-9, forcing an early Lakeland timeout.Although Lakeland took time to regroup, Sinclair kept the pressing, taking the first set hastily 25-10.However Lakeland responded early in the second set jumping out to a 4-8 lead.Sinclair battled back to tie the game at 14 all, and eventually take the lead. Once the Tartan Pride took the lead the never looked back showing determination and a will to win. Sinclair took the second set 25-20.The third set proved to be a much closer competition with the score remaining tied early on. But soon the Tartan pride began to pull away putting the petal to the metal winning the third set 25-23.The win brings Sinclair’s overall record to 14-13, putting them above .500 for the first time this season and provides them with momentum heading into the weeks before the regional tournament in Nov.“I’m preparing the team for regionals,” Gan said. “I think we’re almost to where I want us to be.”Communication has been the key for the drastic improvement in the teams play, according to sophomore Brittney Stickleman.“We’re all learning how to communicate with each other properly instead of not communicating at all,” Stickleman said. Sinclair stands at 7-3 in conference and closes the season at home against the Universiy of Findlay on Oct. 29.
