Hold me, Squeeze me

ByTaurin Hickman

Feb 7, 2011

Growing up I was usually the youngest in my group of friends. I always looked up to them because they had what I thought I wanted at the time. Money, girls, shoes, etc.

They would always try to give me advice, saying I was there protégé and just to trust them when they say things because they knew “what was real.”

Well one thing they told me was that “cuddling is for lames” and I would like to let them know in the most politically correct way that there wrong.

I love cuddling, and if that makes me a “lame” then I guess I’m the lamest person at Sinclair. No Ohio, or America, maybe even the world.

With the cold weather coming up, a running joke I hear is that people are looking for someone to “cuddle up with” but there looking for a lot more than that.

Let’s be real, we’re all adults, of course when you embrace someone in a close way it’s hard not to have sexual feelings for that person. Honestly if your that close to someone and those feelings don’t come, either you’re a very disciplined person or you should leave the couch immediately because something is not right.

But sometimes you need to have that closeness without sex, it’s nice to know you can lay down with someone and tell a person I really care about you.

It’s nice to know when you feel like the weight of the world is on your shoulders, there is someone you can go and hold while having a conversation. A lot of girls I know say they feel most secure when they are being held, so maybe for once we should listen guys.

I’m not trying to imply that every guy or girl for that matter agenda is sexual, I would just like to talk about things you can do to have a bond that’s beyond it.

Cuddling does not have to be an event all by itself, it can happen while you’re watching a movie or just relaxing with each other.

I could be in the minority with this one, as your reading this right now my friends are probably making fun of me right now. Someone may be on my Facebook wall and talking about me like crazy, and I know that someone will call or text me saying how soft I am and that I should man up.

But I truly don’t care; I would rather be the man who is honest with his feelings than the one who tries to act hard.  I’m a fan of the cuddling page on Facebook, so what? I’m also a fan of UFC so does that even out my testosterone levels enough for some of you?

Call me a softie if you want but there is something special about pulling your significant other towards your chest or putting your head on their lap. I get some of my best sleep while I’m lying with my girlfriend. It gets to the point to where I don’t want to let her go.

I want you to re-read that last sentence, I guarantee someone just said “Awww” and I just earned points with my girl, so cuddling works in my advantage for more ways than one.

I don’t know how cuddling was made up, I don’t know the history. Who knows maybe that was one of the ways Cleopatra seduced people, or maybe Da Vinci’s best paintings came from a moment of cuddling. Maybe we can say the Flintstones made it popular, Fred and Wilma were all about PDA.

But what I do know is this. My name is Taurin Hickman, and I’m an avid cuddlier. So bring on the love.
