White Out Wednesday

On Jan. 26, during the Sinclair Community College men’s and women’s basketball games, the Athletic Department is holding a “White Out.”

The games, versus Cincinnati State Community College, start at 5:30 for the women and 7:30 for the men.

According to Athletic Director Jack Giambrone, anyone attending the games should wear a white T-shirt.  Anyone wearing white will be entered into a drawing for an opportunity to take a half-court shot for free books or a month-long parking pass.

“We’re excited for this.  We do it for our students,” Giambrone said.  “It’s a way of saying thank you.”

Also, during the half time of the men’s game, Aramark will be providing free pizza to anyone in attendance, and, Pepsi will be handing out their Mountain Dew White Out beverages for free.

In addition to the pizza and Mountain Dew, Food Services General Manager Tim Sweet said they will be selling alcohol.  As of Jan. 20, Sweet said they will be selling Bud Light in plastic bottles for $4 a piece.  Anyone who wants to buy one must have an I.D. and there is a limit of two per person.

Giambrone said the gym holds 1,200 people, and he wants it full for both games.  He also said he’d like to see a new attendance record set in the gym.

“If you watch Duke play, the crowd there is phenomenal,” Giambrone said.  “We want students, staff and faculty to create that sort of environment here.”

The Sinclair pep band will be playing—which Giambrone said he is excited about—along with the Wayne High School pep band during the two games.

Giambrone also said they will be handing out white head bands and hope to petition the Guinness World Records organization to set a new record for most people wearing white head bands at an event.

“There’s no excuse not to come.  Do your homework before the game or after it,” Giambrone said.  “Bring your children.  If you show your tartan card, you get in free.  “There’s just no reason we shouldn’t have a 1,000 people in that gym.”

The first white-out was four years ago, and Giambrone called it a success.  That game brought over 800 people into the stands.

The second and third white-out games were canceled because of snow, according to Giambrone.
