The 23rd annual Life and Health Sciences Career Job Fair will be held this Friday Jan. 28, in Great Hall, Building 12 from 12 to 4 p.m.

The job fair is a great way for current students, alumni and the public to finds jobs and network with companies in the industry, according to Lindsay Tate, Career Services specialist. Employers from all over the state will be there, including hospitals from the area, rehabilitation centers, non-profit organizations, clinics and community blood centers.

“The idea is that we encourage students to come even if they are not searching for a job now – it’s a great way to network with companies. Some companies may not be hiring now but they’re building a pipeline for their future,” Tate said. “It’s a really great way to come in, learn more about the company, see what’s going to be a good fit for yourself and the employer. We try to get companies to come that will hit every area that we have.”

Students should come dressed for success, in casual business attire if possible; with a resume and a notepad to take down any information they may get from the fair, Tate said. The department also recommends that students have a summary of qualifications ready when talking to companies.

“When you go up to an employer you might have 30 seconds to a minute to tell them what you can do for them,” Tate said. “So we really encourage people to tell them who they are, what skills they have and why they should be hired.”

Anyone interested in the job fair can park in the garage or find street parking. Current students will have a chance to win one of 12 $50 gift certificates to the bookstore by signing up under the program they are studying when they enter.

According to Tate, each company at the fair will typically do a mini presentation on it has to offer and there will be a general list of job openings at the door for attendees to look through. She said it’s important to stop at all of the tables though and to come at any time during the fair, not just the beginning.

“Even if you come in at 3:30 p.m. there will still be people there. We don’t tear down early,” she said.
