With fall quarter calming down, a couple things are happening. First, you probably have finals. Go ahead and read the paper, then go study. Next, you probably need to register for classes. Go do that. Pick some fun ones.
After you register, and once the finals are over, you’ll have a break. But something bad is going to happen during that break.
It’s going to get cold, man. Really cold. We’re thinking freezing temperatures all the time. And, because we care about you, we have some nice tips to help you survive.
1) Wear layers
Here’s the thing. You can’t stay inside all winter. We’ve tried, and eventually it becomes hard to eat. So, when you do go outside, put on lots of clothes. Maybe put on shorts, then some sweatpants. Wear long johns, then a t-shirt, then a sweatshirt and maybe a coat too. Don’t forget gloves and especially a hat. Protecting your ears is very important.
That might seem like a lot. You might end up walking like the Michelin Man. But at least you won’t be shivering like the poor sap beside you.
2) Be prepared before you leave the house
If you know weather will be a factor once you hit the roadways, the best possible thing for you to do is take it slow. Give yourself plenty of time. It’s better to be late to work than dead. If you think that’s a joke, ask anyone who will be speeding on a snowy highway this winter. Now normally we’re all for people that want to take risks. But, we fear that your risk taking might cost us our lives, so if you can please refrain, we’d appreciate it.
Take it slow on the roadways. That’s the best way to proceed during the winter.
3) Keep your vehicle ready to go.
CarTalk.com recommends a number of things for your car. First thing, have a cell phone with you just in case you break down. Make sure you have plenty of antifreeze and that you check often to make sure you don’t get low. Also, keeping half-a-tank of gas in your car helps prevent vapor lock. Plus, if you get stranded, plenty of gas means plenty of heat.
