Clarion Consensus

It’s safe to say that parking is one of the major issues for students at Sinclair Community College. “Sharking “ for a parking spot for 15 minutes and having to walk from the gravel parking lot or take the bus from Welcome Stadium is not a favorite on any students list.

That’s probably why the parking IOU email got under our skin a little bit. It directly had nothing to do with any of us but it just felt like rubbing salt into an open wound. With a little research done though, we understand why parking services had to go that route.

As the front story states approximately 13,000 students owe roughly $32,000. $32,000 ?? If anyone owed us that type of money we might hold their car hostage along with everything else the college is taking from you.

What were really saying is that it would be nice if everyone would just follow the rules. We don’t like being reprimanded because one (or thousands) of other people did something wrong.

And while we are on the subject of parking and doing the right thing, there are certain parking etiquette guidelines that if followed would help things run more smoothly.

Driving like a maniac through the aisles is not cool. We are all in a hurry and get aggravated circling the lot, but we appreciate your safety and ours more than being two minutes late to class.

Subcompact cars only – We are not sure what type of wording could make this any more clear. Let’s just say it makes it very difficult for someone to get into their small car when a big car is trapping them in. You will only have yourself to blame for the scratches on your passenger door.

Whoever thinks it is funny to take up two parking spaces with your car please stop. There is nothing that gets us more heated than not being able to find a spot only to find that someone got greedy and took what could have been ours. If you can’t share the cookies, keep your hands out of the cookie jar.

And last but not least, we all want to get home as quickly as possible, but cutting in front of people or not being patient enough to wait your turn while leaving only causes more headache. This also becomes really dangerous when you have three or four cars with angry people in them rivaling to get down the ramp.

Usually fall quarter parking is always a challenge but honestly it has not been that bad this year. We’re not sure who or what to attribute this to but thank you. We all need to remember that rules and guidelines are there for a reason, sometimes they, for a lack of a better word, suck, but it’s all for the greater good of the college.
