Sinclair Sports Preview 2010-2011

Each season in sports is different. With a different year come new expectations and for Sinclair sports the coaches expect big things. An issue with two-year colleges is the quick turnover teams have so you lose a lot of your players. But with that it also gives coaches a chance to rebuild their teams with new talent.

Men’s Basketball

With only one returning player from last year’s team Coach Jeff Price’s team will have a different feel to them this year but the expectations are still high.

“This team has a very high basketball IQ,” Price said “I like to run the triangle offense also the dribble drive as well, and I can do both effectively with this team.”

According to Price he likes for his team to play in transition about 60 percent of the time but also puts an emphasis on defense.

“We’re normally in the top 15 teams of the nation when it comes to scoring averaging around 85-90 points a game” Price said, “But we’re also normally in the top 20-30 teams is the nation when it comes to team defense as well.”

The Tartans will also be going to Chapel Hill to play the University of North Carolina.

“We normally play them once every three years and so far were 1-1 against them” Price said.

Woman’s Volleyball

The volleyball team also faces a big turnover with only four returning players from last season’s team. But Coach K.C Gan is ready to make adjustments and believes in his team.

“We have a talented team,” Gan said. “But it’s my job to make changes to our system with the talent we have. The system you used in previous years may not work with every team so you work around what you have.”

Gan believes that a team with good basics has the best chance to succeed.

“A good basic team has a great base,” Gan said. “You have to learn to crawl before you walk, and walk before you run.” Gan just wants his teams to learn and play hard

“I like to teach in practice but when its game time, I would love to just put my hands behind my back and just watch the team play. I believe that’s their time to put everything in action.” said Gan “I believe that if you play your best it’s ok, winning will come.”

Sinclair also has Men’s Baseball, Woman’s Basketball and Tennis teams. Previews for these teams will also be coming shortly in future issues of the Clarion.
