I haven’t been able to watch as much NBA as I would have liked to recently because a guy at the restaurant I work at got fired and I picked up a lot of his hours, but I did want to briefly touch on last weeks top headlines.
Allen Iverson signed with the Philadelphia 76ers
After being released by the Memphis Grizzlies last month, Iverson briefly retired before re-signing with his old for a non guaranteed $1.3 million. The 76ers had their first sellout of the season in Iverson’s re-debut on Dec. 7 against another one of his old team’s, the Denver Nuggets; a game in which Iverson kissed the court and tallied 11 points.
One thing is for sure; Iverson still looks good in a Philadelphia 76ers uniform.
Greg Oden is out for the season…again.
Oden, 21, injured his left knee in a game against the Houston Rockets last week and is out for the season after undergoing surgery. This is Oden’s third major injury in the last four years, counting his wrist injury at Ohio State that forced him to shoot free throws left landed. Oden was actually playing well this season before getting injured, averaging 11.1 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.3 blocks in just 23.9 minutes of playing time.
Bet the Blazers wish they still had Channing Frye.
The Lakers are straight ballin’
The Lakers are off to a 16-3 start and have been rolling ever since getting Pau Gasol back from injury. They have three players averaging more than 17 points-per-game: Kobe, Bynum and Gasol, and former Cavaliers great Shannon Brown has taken over the back-up shooting guard spot from Sasha Vujacic. Some ESPN anaylists said last night that the only team in the Western Conference that can challenge the Lakers are the Lakers, meaning injury or complacency are the only things that could get in their way, and I agree.
Did everyone see Kobe’s miracle bank shot to beat the Heat last week? Dang he’s good.
