Bad record hasn’t caused bad attitudes

The women's volleyball team displays their unity by huddling together for a chant during practice on Sept. 22.Despite a 2-20 record, the Sinclair Community College women’s volleyball team is still having fun, according to co-captain Jackie O’Meara.

“My team plays good, exciting games,” Head Coach K.C. Gan said,  “we just haven’t been able to win.”

O’Meara said the team has not been playing very well because the competition is better than last years and because no girl on the team is over 5-foot-10.

“Our team is shorter, but we’re real scrappy,” she said.

O’Meara is one of three sophomores on the team which includes seven freshman.

“Out team blends a lot better this year,” she said. “We have a lot of fun together. The girls are hilarious. It doesn’t matter how many games we win, at least we are having a good time.”

O’Meara said the personality of coach Gan is one reason players are having such a good time this season.

“Coach Gan is really funny. He has us cracking up during the bus rides,” she said. “I know he loves us all. He treats us all like his daughters.”

Already 20-plus games into the season, the Pride just recently began their home schedule. They hope everyone comes to the “Pink Day” game on Oct. 17 when all proceeds go to cancer awareness and research.

“Pink day is an important game for me personally because my grandpa just died of lung cancer, “ O’Meara said. “It would mean a lot if we could get the stands full. That would be great.”
