Sinclair’s campus stays busy over summer

Sinclair Community College received a noticeable makeover during summer break.

Improvements to several areas of the campus occurred, including the parking garage, the Building 6 loading dock and the Building 13 Snack Bar.

Liz Verzi, manager of Facilities, Planning and Construction at Sinclair, said the parking garage was given a new waterproof seal. The garage columns and beams also received attention.

“Every year we do a parking garage project,” she said. “We started with the top levels and we’re moving down. You have to do maintenance on this stuff.”

Verzi said the renovations to the bathrooms in Building 3, 4 and 6 are the beginning of a complete overhaul of the bathrooms on campus.

“(The renovations) will be phased throughout the years,” she said.

Sinclair’s Preble County site was also completed and is ready to open its doors.

Verzi said the school worked on $6.5 million worth of projects over the summer.

“A lot of projects got put on hold because of the recession,” she said.

Verzi said something must to be done about the Sinclair Bookstore.

“It’s dated,” she said about the Building 7 store. “That’s something big we’re looking at doing.

“We have a lot of different ideas,” Verzi said. “We’ll probably go and look at bookstores at other campuses and see what works.”

Here are a few of the projects Sinclair completed over the summer months:
•    Replace driveway at Building 6 dock
•    Restroom renovations in Building 3, 4 and 6
•    Repair plaza leaks between Building 1 and 2
•    Building 13 Snack Bar and Tartan Terrace Dining Room renovation
•    Replace walkway from Parking Lot A to Building 13
•    Parking lot improvements at Lots A and D
•    Replace Building 12 roof
