Sinclair Foundation builds support from employees

Members of the Sinclair Community College family helped raise more than $46,000 to be donated toward student scholarships and programs in the “$40 for the Fortieth” campaign. Supported by the Sinclair Foundation, the annual fund returned after a three-year break to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the annual employee fund.

“The Foundation’s primary mission is to provide support to the college financially,” said Annual Giving and Stewardship Coordinator Sharon Smith. “We help supplement the college budget.”

From Feb. 3 through the final day of spring quarter, the Foundation asked staff and faculty to donate a minimum of $40 to the fund. With more than 250 different scholarships available, employees were given options on where they would like to see their donation emphasized.

In 2006, the Foundation raised $17,000 from employee donations. Compared to the $46,000 raised in two months from 366 donations, the Foundation was overwhelmingly pleased with the show of gratitude.
Smith said it’s important to show student support during the difficult economic period.

“In these troubling economic times, the community is turning to Sinclair for job re-training, career development and an economical alternative to four-year universities,” Smith said. “The Foundation has become a vital resource for Sinclair in terms of program and scholarship support. Without funds provided by the Foundation, many students would be unable to attend college.”
