On Saturday, May 16, the Theater and Dance department will be holding scholarship auditions in Blair Hall Theater.
“These auditions are open to anyone that has passion and ability in theater, whether they are high school students who will be attending Sinclair, current theater students, or anyone on campus that is interested,” said Theater and Dance Department Marketing Manager Patti Celek. “You never know what budding artists are out there.”
Students can audition in either the performance or technical aspects of theater.
“Students who are auditioning in the performance aspect must perform either two monologues or one monologue and one song for a total of four minutes,” Celek said. “Students auditioning in the technical aspect must bring a portfolio of the theater work that they have done in high school, church or in the community and show how they contributed to it.”
Students auditioning in both disciplines will be judged by three theater and dance faculty members who will decide which students earn scholarships.
“The department is offering partial scholarships, full scholarships and book stipends to the most worthy students.” Celek said.
There will not be a limit on the number of students allowed to audition according to Celek. In fact, she hopes there are a lot.
“That would be a problem we would like to have,” Celek said. “We would be more than happy to sit there all day and listen to students who are willing to prepare.”
To register for auditions, students must call Interim Chairperson Gena Neuerer at 512-2455. The deadline to register is Thursday, May 14, by 5 p.m.
Those prepared students can help themselves and the theater department by auditioning, according to Celek.
“These auditions are beneficial for everybody because students need additional funding and we want good students,” Celek said. “Good students are important to our program and to our productions.”
