What happens at Spring Fling, stays at Spring Fling.

At least, that is the plan for Sinclair Community College’s annual tradition of Spring Fling, which will be featuring a Las Vegas theme this year.

Spring Fling will be held on May 13 outside of Building 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Durand Capers and Jasmine Robinson are two of the six Sinclair students that are helping plan the event. Robinson, a marketing and interior design major, said they have been planning this year’s Spring Fling since October. She said the theme for this year’s Spring Fling came about after discussing Student Leader Association advisor, Karen Williams potential trip to Las Vegas.

After receiving a good response from last year’s event—the theme last year was “Sinclair’s Got Talent”—Robinson and Durand hope to double the amount of people who attended last year’s event.

“We want to get campus student involvement,” Robinson said. “We want people to realize this is where your money is going. Come be active. Come be a part of the SLA.”

The event will feature henna tattoos, a first-come, first-serve karaoke contest, a flight simulator, an inflatable sports ring and many other games in the mock-up Las Vegas strip.

Capers said that most students don’t understand how easy it is to get involved with events like Spring Fling.

“Students always ask ‘How do I get involved?’ (Spring Fling) is a good time for them to get involved. The more participation we have for this, the more students get to see what Sinclair has to offer,” Capers said. “Every student is a part of the SLA, and the thing is they don’t know (it).”

Fees for the SLA are automatically in your tuition, so once you pay your fee bill and attend Sinclair, you are in the SLA, according to Robinson and Capers.

“(Students) don’t know that they can ask for events to take place, they can try to set up events,” Capers said.

Robinson hopes that Spring Fling will encourage more students to come out and maybe participate in next year’s Spring Fling.

“We just want to see everyone involved having fun and asking for more,” she said.

Capers added that students should be more open to doing things at Sinclair that doesn’t revolve around their classes.

“While you’re here, why not get involved?” Capers said.
