A few days ago, when I was searching through the blogosphere, I came across this great song by singer, Chrisette Michele, called “Epiphany.”

The songs tackles a familiar topic, where Michele figures out that her boyfriend isn’t up to her standards and decides to leave him. But, Michele’s fresh voice, along with Ne-Yo’s great songwriting, makes this song stand out.

I’ve been a fan of Michele’s since I heard her on the chorus of Jay-Z’s song “Lost One.”

She released her debut album, “I Am” in 2007 and releasing her new album, also titled “Epiphany” on March 31, 2009.

Another artist that I’ve been keeping a close watch on is rapper, Drake. Many people will know Drake as Jimmy Brooks from the show “Degrassi: The Next Generation.” I was skeptical when I first heard Drake’s second mix tape “Comeback Season,” because of his “Degrassi” ties, but after listening to it I gained respect for his skills.

He recently released his third mix tape “So Far Gone,” for free on his Web site, octobersveryown.blogspot.com, and I have to say he has really stepped up his game. The record is filled with wonderful melodies, and poignant rhymes about excess.

My favorite songs are “A Night Off,” featuring R&B singer Lloyd and “Uptown” featuring Lil’ Wayne and Bun-B of UGK. On the former, Drake croons alongside Lloyd about spending time with a special lady after neglecting her for studio sessions – it may be a surprise, but Drake has a pretty good singing voice. The latter shows Drake stealing the spotlight from his mentor, Lil’ Wayne.
