Emotions ran high on Tuesday, Jan. 20, as Barack Obama was inaugurated as president of the United States of America.
Sinclair Community College is far from Washington, DC, but that didn’t stop students and faculty from taking in the sights and sounds via television in the basement of Building 8.
The Student Leadership Association sponsored the event and provided cake to those in attendance. Alicia Franklin, a member of SLA, talked about the excitement of today’s historic event.
“I’ve never cared about this kind of stuff – ever,” said Franklin.
Sinclair also sent a live feed via Skype from the watch party to Tresham College in the United Kingdom. Tresham sits in the English city of Kettering, which is a sister city to Kettering, Oh. Bob Keener is an International Education coordinator at Sinclair and help run the live feed.
“This is a unique day in American history,” said Keener.
Several people wiped away tears during the event, including English professor Becky Morean.
“I knew I was going to cry,” said Morean. “It is just so overwhelming.”
