NFL Recap – Weeks 5 and 6

After six full weeks of NFL games where every team has played each week, here is the recap of weeks five and six of the NFL.

Week five brought the fans some very big matchups that ended in some action-packed games. For starters, it was the first time this year that two teams faced off in London.

The Atlanta Falcons faced off against the New York Jet; with the Falcons winning the game 27-20. The next game was between the Detroit Lions and the Minnesota Vikings. This game ended in a wild fashion when the Vikings kicker made a game-winning field goal as time expired, making this the second week that the Lions have lost to a game-winning field goal.

The next two matches were probably the biggest of the week. The Cleveland Browns faced the Los Angeles Chargers. The game ended up being an offensive battle; it went back and forth each quarter but in the end, the Chargers pulled off the win with a score of 47-42. This game, and the Browns, made history for being the first team to score 40 points and have no turnovers and still lose the game.

The next game was between the Buffalo Bills and the Kansas City Chiefs; where the Bills beat the Chiefs 38-20, which shocked people, showing that the Bills are the team to beat now.

To finish off the recap for week five, there were two games that went into OT. The first game was the Green Bay Packers vs. the Cincinnati Bengals; this game was filled with highs and lows. The other game was the Baltimore Ravens vs. the Indianapolis Colts. The game was dominated by the Colts up until the fourth quarter which is when the Ravens came marching back and then took it into OT,  winning the game by scoring a touchdown.

“I have been shocked that some teams haven’t been playing that well that I thought would have been, and others teams like the Bengals are playing good, which has surprised me,” said Ray Thies, a football fan.

Week six also brought the fans some good games. London hosted another game; this time it was the Miami Dolphins vs. the Jacksonville Jaguars. This game was between two teams with bad records. The Jaguars were 0-5 and the Dolphins were 1-4. In the end, The Jaguars were able to pull off the victory with a game-winning field goal, giving Urban Meyer, Trevor Lawrence, and the Jaguars their first win of the season.

The games set for 1 p.m. turned out to have a couple blowouts in them, from the Bengals winning by 23 points, to the Los Angeles Rams winning by 27 points. There were a couple of other games that did not end closely at all.

The two teams who were in the shootout last week–the Browns and the Chargers–both did pretty badly this week. The Browns faced the Arizona Cardinals and lost 37-14, making them 3-3 now. The Cardinals, on the other hand, won, making them 6-0, still undefeated. The Chargers played the Ravens and lost 34-6.

To finish off week six, the Bills faced off against the Tennessee Titans on Monday Night Football. This game came down to the last couple seconds of the game but in the end, the Titans won by a score of 34-31.

“I expect teams like the Cardinals, Buccaneers, and the Bills to be serious contenders. I also think that there will be a lot more upsets throughout the season,” said Thies.

With six weeks down, divisions like the NFC North and NFC East are starting to show who is the top dog. In other divisions like the AFC West and AFC North, they are going to have some big games to see who will end up in first place.
