Harris formally accepts Democratic nomination

Vice President Kamala Harris formally accepted her party’s nomination for president at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Illinois. Over a month after President Joe Biden made history by dropping out of the race, Harris and running-mate Tim Walz will officially lead the Democratic ticket against Donald Trump and JD Vance this November.

The move comes after weeks of campaigning by Harris and Walz across the US. If elected, Harris would become the first female and second person of color to lead the nation. Walz, a longtime Democratic stalwart, was most recently elected Governor of Minnesota in 2019.

Harris, a former prosecutor and senator from California, entered the national spotlight when she ran for president during the 2019 race. She later became the first female vice president after joining the Biden campaign and successfully unseating Trump that year.
