Dearest Clarion readers,
Because of you, The Clarion exists and will continue to exist. Although it is a news outlet produced by students for students, I believe that The Clarion’s audiences are not limited to students only.
Founded in 1977 at Sinclair Community College, the Clarion staff has dedicated their time and effort to keeping their readers informed and updated about what happens on and off campus.
Even though all the staff at the Clarion are students, knowing that there are readers out there waiting for their next published story or magazine helps them keep going. Because of this fact, the Clarion is not only a news organization; it is also a learning place for all its staff, be it learning about writing like a journalist or how to use AP Style for the first time. So, everyone at the Clarion does learn while making sure you stay informed.
Enough about the Clarion. I am Esperance Amuri, the Clarion’s Online Editor for 2024-2025. I am from Tanzania, an Eastern African country, and have lived in Dayton, Ohio, since 2016. Even though I miss Tanzania, Dayton is home now, and I would not trade it for anything.
With a childhood passion in my heart, I am majoring in journalism with an interest in the investigative part of journalism.
I have always been passionate about telling stories in a way that impacts others, whether it influences them to change their minds about something terrible they were about to do or to change their actions to do the needful.
I started working at the Clarion in the summer of 2024 after being afraid of applying for the reporter position in the first journalism course that I took with my professor, who also happened to be the advisor of the Clarion. I knew about the newspaper, but my cold feet kept me away from applying, leaving me only with admiration for every magazine they released.
But here I am, writing the letter from the Clarion’s Online Editor! God is great. I appreciate your support, whether you read every article or open our website and read two to three paragraphs of a story.
In honor of Women’s History Month, I would love to take this moment to appreciate women worldwide, especially those who have helped shape me and continue molding me into the woman I am becoming.
My mother, Mwajuma, whom I love dearly; my four sisters, Alisa, Andjelani, Sifa, and Adidja; and all my female friends, whom I adore and admire. Because of these women and many other amazing women I have met here at Sinclair, I have kept on going and believing that I am more than what I think about myself.
To all the women worldwide and those who have gone before us, you are appreciated and worthy of all you ask. You are celebrated every day, not only in March. Happy Women’s History Month.
Esperance Amuri, Online Editor
