A Chance of Redemption: Five Things the Next Ghost Recon Needs to Have

Even though it hasn’t been confirmed or not whether Ghost Recon: Breakpoint will have a year three, or Ubisoft Paris will begin on a new installment, one thing is certain: most of the Ghost community is over Breakpoint and is ready for a new game.

A prominent Ghost Recon member named ASQUAD Gaming posted a video on his YouTube channel recently where he polled the community, asking whether they want a year three for Breakpoint or a new game entirely. Most people responded that they were over the current game and ready for a new one, believing it will give the series a fresh start.

It’s unclear whether the series will continue since Breakpoint was a commercial as well as a critical flop amongst the community, but if Ubisoft Paris decides to continue the series, here are five things the next game should have in order to make a comeback.

5: Improved AI

Ghost Recon: Breakpoint’s AI was some of the worst any gamer could see in the current year of gaming. They would often be blind to the play and run at you if alerted rather than taking cover and flanking your position. What’s even worse, when compared to other tactical shooters, Breakpoint’s AI looks like a new guy who did the coding at Ubisoft.

A YouTuber by the name of Fwench made a video comparing Breakpoint to two known tactical military shooters, Ground Branch and MGSV which had me questioning the dev’s integrity regarding the game.

4: A Forward Operating Base

One of the things both Breakpoint and Wildlands was lacking was a FOB, a massive base for the player to free roam and do all sorts of activities whether it be talking to a squadmate, target practice, you name it.

MGSV for example has a FOB called Mother Base where you can freely walk around depending on how much time and effort the player put into building it up. Now granted, there wasn’t much to do on MB, but the fact you had a base to roam around was something truly special, so hopefully, the next Ghost Recon has that feature since a lot of players have criticized the base you had in Breakpoint which was just a cave where the resident of the island hid from the villains.

3: More Variety in Character Customization

Breakpoint’s character customization was weak compared to Wildlands which offered a lot of outfits and other gear to fully make the type of Ghost operator you wanted to make. Many in the community have suggested that in the next game, the player gets all types of weapons that function based on their purpose like a lighter vest will result in faster speed but less ammo and the reverse.

2: A Black Hawk Helicopter, Variety Choppers, and Extract Helicopters

There is nothing new for Ghost Recon but were fully usable in Wildlands and continued in Breakpoint, but like with other features, this feature was weakened as well. In the game, there are no black hawk helicopters which players brought up as an issue when Breakpoint was first released. One thing I would like to see for the next game is to have a black hawk helicopter piloted by an AI pilot of our own choosing, this would allow for some good infiltration as well as extracting from an enemy area.

Matter of fact, MGSV has that feature in which you can come into an area on a black hawk as well as leave the area and this is something Ubisoft should take note of.

1: A Living Breathing World

One major issue players have with Breakpoint is the open world itself. Aurora is a boring open world with nothing to do besides base clearing. There are side missions, but they are poorly made and are just plain uninteresting and some players have brought up the game’s story as to why the open world of Aurora is designed the way it is, but it really comes across as a sorry excuse for Ubisoft to make a bland world to roam around in.

The next Ghost Recon must have a livable open world in order to bring back the series. Many have brought up Afghanistan, but I think it is too bland and too close to home. What I suggest is that Ubisoft Paris must have the next game set in Africa or Southeast Asia or better yet a direct sequel to Wildlands which is something a lot of people have been suggesting for the next sequel.
