TROY, Ohio, April 5, 2025 – Protesters denouncing President Trump and his administration gathered in front of the Miami County Courthouse.
The overwhelmingly conservative city was briefly host to 200-300 protesters despite flood warnings being announced earlier in the day. A variety of people ranging from children to military veterans joined together and for roughly two hours, made their voices heard.
They came to decry the administration’s handling of the Russia-Ukraine war, the deportation of immigrants, the new tariff plans and the new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), along with many other complaints.
Organized mainly through Facebook and other social media platforms, the protesters conveyed pleasant surprise with the amount of people that attended.
This surprise is understandable as Miami County tends to lean heavily conservative. In the 2024 presidential election, over 70% of the county’s voters casted their ballot for the Trump and Vance ticket.
Attendees and on-lookers expressed concern that change could come too little too late. Many pointed out that Trump has only been in office for 75 days and has already begun to isolate America from the international community.
With the DOW Jones record breaking two day drop off taking place immediately after Trump’s latest tariff announcement, these protesters seemed eager to point out that less money affects Democrats and Republicans alike.
These April 5 protests have been planned nationwide, but for one to reach into this rural and conservative community could be an indication that Trumps popularity is waning. If the administration does not take action soon to address these concerns, the GOP risks losing even more ground to the opposition party.
