The Return of the Twin Valley Challenge

Five River MetroParks announced that the Twin Valley Challenge had been pushed back to Sept. 25 due to COVID. According to their website, there were marked routes where people could hike from 1 to 28.7 miles on a TVT connector trail, located at Germantown MetroPark and Twin Creek MetroPark.

The event was free of charge and the hiking trail was open to everyone due to funding from sponsors and donations. Hikers were able to select their own mile to run which consisted of six different routes from 10, 12, 14, 22, or the max 28.7-mile hike. Those who didn’t participate in the challenge were still allowed to hike on the trail if they liked. There is also a new trail that has a 2.3-mile extension of the orange trail which is part of Germantown MetroPark.

Registration was open from 5:30 a.m. until noon at Germantown MetroPark’s Twin Valley Welcome Center with a suggestion to come early. After the hike, a post-challenge cookout took place and hikers were able to camp for free on Friday and Saturday night. The event was sponsored by the Dayton Hiker who also sponsored the event back in 2013.
