Sculpted from a range of clouds overpassing the highway
—Mount Fuji in the sky!—
until high winds like dynamite remove all but the susurrus
of a dream and rushing tires.

Long ago,
my brothers scratched a fireline
between me and them,
so that my raging fire
wouldn’t consume them too.
Over the years,
that line has fortified
into the impenetrable barrier
it is now,
despite my cooling embers.

A red hot ember blazes with future promises
