Five movies to watch before the end of the year

The year is coming to an end. Finals are always stressful, but here are five movies releasing before its curtains on 2024 to help take your mind off of things for a while.

Kraven the Hunter

Releasing later this month, “Kraven the Hunter” introduces a new character to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or does it? The titular character in the film is portrayed by actor Aaron Taylor Johnson. Johnson has already been in the MCU before as Quicksilver, Wanda Maximoff’s twin brother.

There are a lot of questions surrounding the timeline and where characters fit into it. Is Kraven going to be canon to the main MCU? How do the other Sony Spider-Man movies fit into things? If Kraven is canon to the main MCU timeline, will anyone realize that Kraven and Quicksilver from “Age of Ultron” look exactly the same?

Fans are hoping for answers to these questions on Dec. 13, 2024 when “Kraven The Hunter” releases in theaters.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3

The third Sonic the Hedgehog movie is a highly anticipated sequel to the second film from 2022. This movie is continuing the story right where it’s predecessor left off. After making friends with former foe, Knuckles, Tails, and Sonic have a new common enemy: Shadow. Like Knuckles previously, Shadow works with Dr. Robotnik aka Eggman, but this begs the question: Will Sonic make friends with Shadow in this film, or will he continue to be an issue for the group? While most movies end with the answer, the Sonic movies have tended to leave viewers with more questions through after-credit scenes. This has yet to fail to bring viewers back again and again. Will there be yet another foe to defeat proceeding this film, or is this the end of Dr. Robotnik and the story of Sonic the Hedgehog? “Sonic 3” is available in theaters Dec 20 2024.

Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim

While the work of JRR Tolkien has had a large audience since “The Hobbit” was released in 1937, it continues to grow as Japanese director Kenji Kamiyama’s upcoming animated film takes the “Lord of the Rings” franchise in a new direction. The story told in “War of the Rohirrim” is told from the perspective of a character that, up until recently, has been relatively unheard of.

Given the popularity of anime and Tolkien’s work, Kamiyama’s film could be the most popular in his distinguished career. The movie is scheduled to release in US theaters on Dec. 13 2024.

Mufasa: The Lion King

Unlike many of Disney’s most recent live action movies, this isn’t a remake or new adaptation of a preexisting property. This new film gives an in-depth explanation on how the Pride Lands came to be, where Mufasa came from, and why Scar, the “rightful heir” to the throne became an outcast.

People are looking for answers to questions that have been asked for nearly 20 years: Where did the lion brothers come from? Why are they always at each other’s throats? Has Mufasa been the true antagonist all these years? All of this will be answered Dec 19, 2024 when “Mufasa: The Lion King” is available in theaters.

2073

“This is not fiction. This is not a documentary. This is a warning”, the film’s trailer states. Just like Ray Bradbury’s legendary book “Fahrenheit 451”, “2073” gives viewers a glimpse of our planet’s future. Many of us will experience these changes firsthand, some are experiencing them now.

The film highlights that disaster won’t just ‘happen one day’. It is happening right now in 2024, and it will only get worse. To catch a glimpse of what the world will be like, watch the movie in theatres when it releases on Dec. 27 2024.
