September marks the beginning of fall and in Hollywood, the end of the summer blockbuster season. But there are plenty of great movies coming out to keep you in and out of theatres. Whether you’re looking for a welcome study break or just a want to hang out with friends, there’s plenty to look forward to at cinemas in the Dayton area to keep you busy throughout the month.
- ‘The Equalizer 3’ (Sep.1)
Few actors are as beloved as Denzel Washington. He’s simply iconic and like a good wheel of swiss cheese, seems only get better with age. It should be no surprise then that viewers are eagerly anticipating his third installment in the action-packed ‘Equalizer’ franchise. This time around Washington’s Robert McCall heads to Italy to enjoy some peace and quiet. Unfortunately for a number of local goons, McCall’s new sanctuary is disturbed and dozens will pay for it. Que pandemonium, loads of vengeance, and Washington reminding audiences that ‘Man on Fire’ was not a fluke.
- ‘The Nun II’ (Sep. 8)
Horror fans have been waiting longer than anyone expected for ‘The Nun’ to return. It’s been five years since the first movie freaked us (and Taissa Farmiga) out. Well, the certified scream queen is back for more mayhem, madness, and a bloodthirsty villain rocking a habit. Audiences are bound to feel like Halloween came early if director Michael Chaves meets their half a decade’s worth of anticipation.
- ‘Expend4bles’ (Sep. 22)
Film fans either love or hate this franchise with good reason. But anyone in the former camp are in for a wild ride as Barney Ross and his team return. One of the best things about these movies is seeing who joins Silvester Stallone’s cast of daredevils, not to mention the insane action sequences. This time around we can look forward to Meagan Fox, 50 Cent, and Thai martial arts legend Tony Jaa. But the actor I am most excited to see in this flick is Indonesian star Iko Uwais. To those who do not know who he is do yourselves a favor and watch ‘The Raid Redemption’ and ‘Merantau’ to see what the hype is about.
- ‘The Creator’ (Sep. 29)
I’m a sucker for original IPs and since its trailers began airing have been looking forward to this Sci-fi film. Directed by Gareth Edwards of ‘Rogue One’ and ‘Godzilla (2014)’ fame, the story takes place in a world ravaged by war between humans and AI. When a mercenary is hired to destroy an advanced weapon developed by the machines, he is forced to reconsider his mission when he discovers that the weapon is in fact a child.
In addition to a very interesting premise, the film stars a number of highly respected talents including John David Washington, Gemma Chan, and Ken Watanabe among others.
Are you excited for any of these movies? Or is there a film not mentioned here that you look forward to seeing in September? Let us know in the comments!
