Friday night in Cincinnati, a city that already buzzes with excitement on a regular basis. But tonight, there was a different feeling in the air. A feeling that was almost electric. People hurried along. Going in and out of the restaurants and shops downtown. But, it’s busier than normal.
What brings all the people to the city? Well, Taylor Swift and the almost undefeated Reds of course. Two big draws that caused the city to be at maximum capacity.
Taylor Swift performed Friday night yes, but she will also be returning Saturday night. There are currently less than 400 tickets left, and the prices are dropping. What used to be over $1,100 a ticket, is now down to around $900. Still, a hefty price for a concert ticket. But obviously within reach for most of her fandom, because the Paycor Stadium, formerly known as The Paul Brown Stadium, can hold over 65,000 people and each night has almost been sold out.
Taylor doesn’t come alone to the big city. She brings with her MUNA and Gracie Abrams. Two amazing artists in their own right. According to Journal News, the two night event is going to bring in over $92 million to the city. This is a great economic boom. People were in line to start purchasing merchandise before noon and the concert didn’t even start until 6:30 p.m.
What is about Taylor that brings such an amazing crowd to each and every one of her tour locations? Well, according to Thethings.com, part of the reason why tickets are so expensive is because people are willing to pay the price. Originally, the tickets were meant to be between $49 to $499. But once the tickets made their way onto Ticketmaster.com, the prices skyrocketed. And people paid the price happily. Another factor may be because Taylor’s last tour was over five years ago. Her fandom has been eagerly awaiting another tour from her.
But Taylor wasn’t the only big hit tonight. The Reds also scraped by with another win. The game was long and intense. According to yardbarker.com “Spencer Steer drilled a game-winning, two-out, two-run homer off the upper deck in left to lead the Cincinnati Reds past the visiting San Diego Padres, 7-5, in 11 innings Friday. The Reds, who won their third straight and 15th in 18 games, were down to their final out when Matt McLain drilled a two-run homer in the 10th to extend the see-saw contest.”
The Reds will play the Padres again on Saturday at 1:40 p.m. They currently hold first place with a record of 44 wins to 38 loses. In second place currently are the Brewers with a 43 to 39 record.
We can only hope that the Reds will keep their winning record in Saturday’s game and that the Taylor Swift fandom has an enjoyable night.
