Facebook post for the Gem City Get Down event

The Gem City Get Down was started by members of the Dayton Hip Hop Dialogue as an alternative to your typical local Hip Hop show. This is not your typical format of rapper after rapper performing on stage. The Gem City Get Down highlights all elements of Hip Hop in an old-school party atmosphere. B-boys, B-girls, DJs, Emcees, Graf writers, and party people from all over under one roof getting down to the music!

“We get an eclectic mix of ages at the Gem City Get Down events. Events are for anyone 21 and older.” Cooley said. “It is an old-school hip hop party modeled after a time even before rappers.”

Chuck Papp, a musician himself and manager at Omega Music in the Oregon District in downtown Dayton, has worked alongside Cooley and Picket Fence at the music store for several years.

“These guys know how to get down, so get down to the Gem City Get Down!” Papp said.

They feel it is important to give back to the community both locally and globally. Gem City Get Down is the perfect opportunity to do just that!

Their Inaugural event was held in Dayton, OH at Jay & Jeans on Leo St and benefited the local food bank. People came in droves, donating hundreds of canned goods in the dead of winter.

“We hope you will continue to party with us and support the global community with us. Long live Hip Hop!” Gem City Get Down.
