PORT CLINTON, Ohio, April 21, 2020—African Safari Wildlife Park has received more than 600 bales of hay from its wildlife conservation partners at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG aquarium. The hay was grown at the Pittsburgh Zoo’s International Conservation Center (ICC) in Somerset County, Pa.
On Saturday, April 11, three ICC staff members made the five-hour drive between the facilities, bringing two trucks full of hay for African Safari’s 400 animal residents.
“In this critical time, it is a challenge to continue to feed and care for our animal collections in zoos across the country and maintain our essential employees at our facilities. We work closely with African Safari Wildlife Park on many conservation efforts and are happy to help feed their animals in this time of need,” said Dr. Barbara Baker, President & CEO of the Pittsburgh Zoo. “Even while we are currently facing our own challenges here in Pittsburgh, we are still reaching out to our regional partners to determine how we can help.”

African Safari plans to reopen after the Stay Home Order is lifted on May 2, 2020.
The Midwest’s only Drive-Thru Safari, African Safari Wildlife Park, is located at 267 S. Lightner Rd. in Port Clinton, Ohio.
