Now, over six years later, “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” was released on Oct. 18, 2019. Although this may seem like a lengthy amount of time, it was originally set to come out on May 29 of 2020, nearly seven months later. So, in reality, fans anticipating the film could consider themselves lucky.

Maleficent is a character from Walt Disney’s 1959 fictional animated film, “Sleeping Beauty.” In this story, she is the evil fairy who tries to curse her goddaughter Princess Aurora’s life forever.

“Maleficent” is a modern re-telling of this classic fairytale. While “Sleeping Beauty” focuses on Princess Aurora’s story, the Maleficent movies put more emphasis on Maleficent’s backstory and her role in the tale.
