The eighth  season of AMC’s The Walking Dead hit the premiered last weekend and follows season seven, which contained some of the most emotional and brutal moments in the series.

Spoilers follow below.

With the season six cliffhanger, fans were dying to know who Negan killed. The season seven premiere was one of the most horrific and traumatizing episodes the show has ever done.

A lot of fans guessed that it would be Glenn that would die, since that is what happened in the comics. It was a shock to see that the person that Negan killed was Abraham.

Daryl, overwhelmed with emotions, charged against Negan and punched him in the face. Negan would not let this go unpunished and quickly turned around and smashed Glenn in the head with his baseball bat, Lucille.

Negan had to psychologically break down Rick into subjugation. As if the two deaths weren’t enough, Negan commanded Rick to cut off Carl’s hand. Seeing that Rick was willing to mutilate his own son, Negan told him to stop and left Rick and the rest of them there with the two bodies.

The rest of the season deals with the three different groups who are under the order of Negan. We were introduced to the Kingdom, under the rule of King Ezekiel. Carol and Morgan found refuge under Ezekiel’s care, after Carol was wounded in a gunfight against some of the Saviors.

During Season seven, we see Carol trying to forget the part of her that killed so many people. However, once she found out that Negan Killed Abraham and Glenn, she immediately wanted revenge and teamed up with King Ezekiel.

Sasha and Rosita, being devastated that Abraham was dead, decided to try and take out Negan on their own. Sasha sacrificed herself and went into the building to try and kill Negan, while Rosita escaped back to the Hilltop. Sasha was able to take out several Saviors before being captured.

At this point Negan realized that the three camps were preparing to go to war against him. He was going to use Sasha as leverage against Rick, so Sasha sacrificed herself, and in zombie form pushed Negan to the ground.

While trying to find people to help fight against Negan, Rick and the others found a group of people who ended up betraying them and holding them hostage after Negan got to Alexandria. After zombie Sasha attacked Negan, Carl saw this as a chance to attack and he was the first to fight back.

Using the leverage that zombie Sasha gave them, Rick led his family against the Saviors. At this point the Kingdom and the Hilltop reached Alexandria and they were able to push the Saviors back and they eventually retreated.

The last scene is Rick, Ezekiel, and Maggie, standing in front of everyone and encouraging them that this is the time to fight back and united, can win against the saviors and gain their freedom once more.

Season eight will premiere on October 22 at 9pm EST on AMC. The season will be sixteen episodes long and will no doubt be as intense, if not more than, the last season.
