PRIDE Month: Be Uniquely You

Pride Month is officially here, and cities across Ohio are celebrating all month long. The LGBTQIA+ community takes this month to celebrate the struggles the community has overcome, and express their individuality. Pride Month is a month full of color and joy for the LGBTQIA+ community to be themselves and proud of it, despite discrimination and inequality.

The Greater Dayton LGBT Center is having its Pride parade on June 4 and 5. “Reverse Parade” on June 5  gives the community a chance to decorate their vehicles and drive through 2nd  Street in downtown Dayton. Dayton will host movie nights and other events throughout the month of June to celebrate and bring people together. There will be live music, food trucks, and other activities on the first weekend of June to celebrate. The center does encourage people to stay safe with social distance as much as possible. The schedule below lists the times for the events of the first weekend of June in Dayton.

Even if you are not a part of the LGBTQ community, you can donate to organizations and join to celebrate with others.

A Sinclair student group created a program 10-years-ago called Brite Signal Alliance. This group used to meet on Wednesdays in Building 10, room 304 from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm. But due to covid, it is closed but Liaison Larry Lindstrom can be reached via email at larry.lindstrom@sinclair.edu or via phone at 937-512-2481 to still talk to students. This group raises awareness about diversity and the LGBTQ+ community.
