Sinclair Library: the best place to study in downtown Dayton?

We all need time to study to properly absorb all the information we’re given in class. Unfortunately for some of us, we may not a place that’s just the right blend of calm and quiet. The answer, if you are anywhere near the downtown campus, is the Sinclair Library.

With its massive list of services, making the most of the library can be pretty daunting. That is where the campus librarians come in. The Clarion spoke to two about the best ways to make the most of one of Sinclair’s most important resources.

Julie McDaniel said, “Definitely ask for help. That’s what all of us are here for.”

The library possesses an extensive collection of materials that can be pulled from shelves for the convenience of patrons. Students that lack regular internet access can also use one of its many computers to complete assignments or for other essential activities.

“People frequently start assignments too late. That’s the biggest mistake I see here. The assignment’s tomorrow and they need stuff today. A little bit of planning ahead goes a long way,” McDaniel added.

According to Andrew Walsh, the library is also an ideal gathering place for groups of students to work together on projects. Although many may be too shy to work with others that is often the best way to get a handle on a difficult assignment. Additionally, it is where tutors can be found.

“We are a useful space as far as group study. We’ve got the coffee shop, we’ve got areas to meet with friends, areas to study quietly,” he told The Clarion.

The library’s online services are equally extensive. A search engine on its website connects students to a vast amount of ebooks, PDFs, and academic papers. Sinclair students, through the library, also have access to OhioLink. The online service offers students and educators throughout the state easy access to print and digital resources for academic purposes.
