Sinclair preps for massive Welcome Week

Departments across Sinclair’s trio of campuses are gearing up for a huge Welcome Week full of activities, giveaways, and food. New and returning students will have plenty to do from Aug. 26-29 thanks to a longlist of events put together with the support of the college’s Student Engagement team.

In conversation with The Clarion, Crystal Ford Bingle, Student and Community Engagement Coordinator, described the week as a great opportunity for students to get used to their new home away from home. She confirmed that this year events would be happening at the college’s satellite campuses in Mason and Centreville as well.

“We will have a multitude of activities to engage students that week to not only help them get to know people and find that sense of belonging but to also have fun throughout that process,” Bingle said.

Events scheduled at the downtown campus include the “Arcade Affair: Game Room Grand Opening” in Building 8 on Aug. 26, “Let’s Talk about Student Clubs & Orgs” in the Library Loggia on Aug. 27, the classic “Welcome Week Tie Dye Party” on Aug. 28, before things are wrapped up at the “Tartan Lawn Party”.

“I think the Tie Dye Party is going to be really cool. Students will be able to make a tie dye item of their choice and hang out with puppies at a dedicated puppy tent provided by the Humane Society of Greater Dayton among other activities. Our big finale, the Tartan Lawn Party, is also going to be busy with free lunch, several inflatables, snow cones and so much more,” Bingle added.

Other events set to be held throughout the week include a visit by Congressman Greg Landsman to the Mason campus, a recreation room Open House in Centreville, as well as a meet and greet with the Director of the Mason campus. Bingle recommended students pick up a schedule of events so they don’t miss out.

“I absolutely encourage students to pick up a schedule at our information stations, ask questions, and look for people wearing blue welcome week t-shirts if you need any help. We are working with a number of wonderful volunteers who will be happy to direct you and answer any questions you might have,” said Bingle.
