Have you ever found yourself looking for what to watch and then you stumble on exactly what you seem to have been looking for? That is how I felt when I first discovered African animation. Here are four must-watch animated movies and shows from the Mother Continent that will leave you wanting more.
- Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire
This Anthology type series has many different flavors from across Africa. Each episode is unique but relatable no matter where you come from, focusing on themes like family, love, and humanity. It also offers insight into the incredible work of African artists intermixed with some amazing myths and legends.
- Iwaju
In this Afrofuturistic series, a man from wrong side of the tracks becomes rich by holding the children of wealthy families for ransom. But he runs into trouble when he targets the main character as his next victim. This series is full of excitement, humor, and charm.
- ‘Supa Team 4’
If you love superheroes you can’t go wrong with Supa Team 4. All the way from Zambia, the series follows the exploits of four female students that become undercover superheroes to protect their city and world from an evil villain. Its just the kind of show to share with loved ones of all ages.
- ‘Mikolo’
This Nollywood film has it all: curious children, a magical animated creature, and an enchanted forest. It captures the sense of adventure we all have as kids and just how wonderful the world around is can be. While it may not be completely animated, its done so tastefully it deserves a spot on this list.
