Campus Safety is critically important. On Valentine’s at 9 a.m. Sinclair students were notified via email about a police report made to the Sinclair Police Department the night before. It read: “On Feb. 13, 2023 at approximately 9:55 p.m. a male and female student were walking to Parking Lot A, in the crosswalk going south across Fourth Street to Parking Lot B.
It was reported that an unknown male approached the two students from behind, then proceeded to knock a book and cell phone out of the male student’s hand. The suspect then proceeded to grab the male student by his backpack in a manner consistent with attempting to take his bag. The suspect was not able to take control of the property.
He was last seen walking down Fifth Street toward downtown. The suspect was described as an African American male, approximately 6’1” in height, of average build, wearing black sunglasses, a gray jacket with yellow on the shoulders, blue pants, and his hair in a bun.”
The police then closed with a reminder, “All tips received are kept confidential. If anyone has any additional information, please contact Sinclair Police at extension 2700 from any campus phone, (937) 512-2700 for all non campus phones, or stop by the Sinclair Police Office, room 7112 on the first floor of Building 7. Thankfully no one was injured. These students did everyone a great service by reporting the attempted crime. If you find yourself needing to travel to your car during late hours, you can always ask someone from Sinclair police to safely escort you and a guard on duty will gladly accompany you. Though this was an unordinary incident for Sinclair, it’s important to remember you can never take safety too seriously.
